located on ny pa. border, zone 5a. Your postings is not dated. Super cold winter in '13 - '14 but lots of snow cover should have compensated.
My theory? Cold winter impacted indirectly. Many bee hives were wiped out. I grow some 100 bushes (30 different cultivars) and noted the absence of the honeybee thus year. Seems like all pollination was done by the bumble bee and an occasional humming bird. My crop is light too in spite of rich foliage and very vibrant growth and health.
Just a theory.

Bud set (NOT)
by: Rich

We did have a very dry summer last year. I had to water from my pond, sprinkler system, but maybe the bud shoots did not set at that time. Also we did have a very cold winter and late spring with lots of rain. I believe it was just the combination of all. But first time it has ever happened.
